I chose the "Record" because it uses color and a bold font nicely. I also like how it incorporates the graphics around the Text and its modern style.
I chose the Bakersfield Californian because I liked its use of an older style and more elegant font. To me it showcases what a classic newspaper look like.I found both of these at Newseum.

The Record nameplate is definitely unique. All the photo mash-ups seem to click. All the attention is not toward the nameplate but more to grab the readers attention.
