Ad:
I chose this ad for fluevog shoes because it grabbed my attention. The visual is made up of geometrical and assymetrical shapes, and despite it being a piece of paper, it has a 3-D feel to it.(texture) The image stands out as it is against a black background (contrast/balance), the black elements in the shoes, skirt and clock tie it all together (unity).
I chose this because it grabbed my attention with the bright colors. Each page is balanced: half text, half graphics/visuals. The colors also carry between pages- blue, pink and yellow. the title and the pencil on the first page are used as background colors in the headshots on the second page. The title also shows texture with the shadowed text. The difference in layout brings a nice contrast to the eye when reading the story, as well as the alternating colored paragraphs. Having a white background was a nice choice. Much of the other feature stories in this magazine were neon colored text against a black background which made them hard to read.
