Advertisement Layout
I chose this layout because I like the placement of everything on the page, it's a simple and clean design, and I like how the red couch pops. I also like the placement of the text.
Feature Layout
I chose this layout for my feature example because I really liked the placement of the image and the text, the lines in the image leads your eyes downward into the text of the story. the columns are even and I also like how the image is placed in between.

I agree, the first picture uses contrasting colors well to direct your focus to the main idea of the page..
The feature is really cool and the vertical lines pull you down the the actual story.
